Sheri Wegner

    Sheri Wegner graduated in 1979 from Mukwonago High School, where she competed in five sports earning eleven varsity letters. She was the 1979 “Mukwonago High School Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year”. In 1979 Wegner was a member of the first Mukwonago girls’ basketball team to compete in the state championship tournament.

    A four-year letter winner in basketball, Wegner was named the team’s most valuable player in ’77, ’78, and ’79. Sheri was named to the Southern Lakes All-Conference 1st team and the Waukesha All-County 1st team in ’78, and ’79. In 1979, Wegner was named to the Wisconsin All-State 2nd team, was the Waukesha County Player of the Year, Southern Lakes Eastern Division Most Valuable Player, and named to the Milwaukee Journal All-Star Basketball team. Upon graduation Wegner held school records for career scoring, career rebounding, career steals, career assists, and career most consecutive starts.

    Sheri’s athletic accomplishments didn’t end on the basketball court. She also earned varsity letters in volleyball in ’76, ’77, ’78. She was named the team’s Most Valuable Player in ’77 and ’78 along with being selected to the Southern Lakes All-Conference 1st teams. In ’78 and ’79 Wegner earned varsity letters in softball and in ’79 was named to the Southern Lakes All-Conference 1st team. In ’76 and ’77 Wegner earned varsity letters in track and in ’77 represented Mukwonago High School in the Southern Lakes Conference Golf Championships.

    After graduation, Wegner went on to play basketball at Western Michigan University from 1979 to 1983 where she was a four-year varsity letter winner. Sheri received her Bachelors of Science degree in 1984 and in 1993 she earned her Masters of Arts degree in Education. She has successfully coached junior high, high school, junior college, and collegiate basketball teams.

    Sheri Wegner continues to enjoy athletics as a Physical Education Instructor at Portage Northern High School and still competes in basketball, soccer, golf, and tennis.
