Jerry Swan

Jerry Swan graduated from Mukwonago High School, where he earned eleven letters in three sports and was captain of the Indians' 1950-51 championship basketball team.
In 1961, Swan returned to Mukwonago High as head basketball coach, having gained five years of head coaching experience at Valders and Sturgeon Bay.
Under Coach Swan's guidance, the Indians ended a long losing streak. Twenty-four seasons later Coach Swan's overall record was 296 wins and 243 losses. Conference championships were won in 1965, 75 and 78, along with five regional tournament championships. Coach Swan was named Southern Lakes Coach of the Year three times and Waukesha County Coach of the Year once. He wrote articles for the "Scholastic Coach" and "Athletic Journal", national coaching magazines. His tenure at Mukwonago included competition in three conferences.
Coach Swan's teams exhibited discipline, sportsmanship, and a never quit disposition. His colleagues described him as the coaches' coach. Following his retirement from the high school basketball program in 1985, Jerry enjoyed nine more years of coaching at Park View Middle School. Jerry completed his coaching career in 1998 when he was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. To this day, he remains proud to have been a high school basketball coach.
