Bill Baas
Class of '54
Bill Baas is a 1954 graduate of Mukwonago High School. As a student/athlete at MHS he earned seven varsity letters (three in football and four in baseball).
In football Bill played on three championship teams. His senior year he was a team captain and was selected to the all conference squad.
In baseball Bill batted 400 or higher every year. His senior year the team went undefeated in conference and went to the sectional finals.
After high school Bill attended UW-Madison for one year but a broken leg in 1955 halted his football season. He transferred to UW-Milwaukee and continued his football career lettering in ’57, ’58 and ’59. He played both offensive and defensive linebacker and special teams literally never coming off the field. He was a two time all conference select and team captain. He also played baseball for two years with a batting average of .328. In 1990 Bill was inducted into the UWM Athletic Hall of Fame. Beyond college Bill has coached football for 14 years (11 as a head coach at Waterford High School). His teams won five conference championships under his leadership.
Bill also coached basketball for 18 years, baseball for 8 years, and yes even wrestling for a year.
Bill spent 38 years in education as a teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, and principal.
Bill Baas certainly left his mark on MHS (and beyond).
