Toby Ackerman
Coach/Athletic Director

After fulfilling experiences as a student athlete in high school (Milwaukee Washington) and college (University of Wisconsin-Whitewater) Toby began his career as a driver education teacher and coach (football and wrestling) at Mukwonago High School in January, 1973.  After 15 years in the classroom, Toby earned his masters degree in Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  In 1988 he became the athletic director at Waukesha North High School.  In 1995 with the retirement of Gerry Asmann, Toby returned to Mukwonago to direct the sports and activities programs at both Mukwonago High School and Park View Middle School, expanding the already vast number of opportunities for extra-curricular involvement for students.  Toby likes to boast that he coached and later directed the athletic programs at one of the strongest schools in arguably the most powerful conference in the state of Wisconsin.

Toby’s personal motto is “do more that is expected of you and leave the place better than you found it”.  With only a few regrets, Toby feels he hit the target.  Toby coined the slogan, “We are all MHS”, encouraging students and staff to feel that they are all important members of the MHS family.

Toby is very proud that his wife Joyce is a veteran elementary teacher of the Mukwonago district, and his two sons, T.J. and Jake, both had successful experiences as students and athletes at MHS.

Toby is eternally grateful that throughout his career as an athletics and activities director he had outstanding help from administrative assistants:  Sheila Brimmer (Waukesha North), Judy Fruncek (MHS) and for the majority of his time at MHS, Sue Runnells.

In 2009 Toby retired after 36 years in public education, doing what he loved and working with great kids and colleagues.
