Rick Swan
Distinguished Service Recipient
One of the people who becomes more involved year after year is Rick Swan. For more than 20 years, he has been the kind of person who rolls up his sleeves when work needs to be done. . . whether it is when a new baseball diamond needed to be skinned out, new benches needed to be made, electrical lines need to be trenched, or funds need to be raised.
In the early 90’s when the high school was renovating the weight room, Mukwonago High School went to Rick in order to spearhead the fundraising effort to equip the facility. A past president of the school’s Booster Club, Rick continues to be involved even though his children have all graduated. He has been the coordinator of Mukwonago’s annual Booster Club Golf Outing that accounts for most of the revenue generated for the organization, which services all MHS sports. He has been doing this for over 15 years. Rick took over that event when the activity was starting to lag in the 1990’s and within two years the number of golfers tripled. For the past five years, the response to participate in the event has grown to a point where the event needed to be moved to a larger course. Additionally, Rick obtains beverages and snacks, starter kits, raffle prizes, and auction items that have made the MHS golf outing a mainstay in the community. The event now garners in excess of $20,000 in net profit – largely due to the work and contacts of Rick.
Rick also has been heavily involved in the fundraising drive and planning of a recreation center, including a swimming pool and fine arts theatre to be used by the Mukwonago community.
As an MHS student athlete Rick excelled on the field of play. He has spent all of his adult life giving back to his community. Rick is a lifelong resident of Mukwonago. He is married to Martha (also an MHS grad) and they have three adult children, Ryan, Jamie and, Jeff (all MHS grads).2007 INDUCTEE
