Bruce Lammers
Coach
Bruce is a 1977 graduate of Oostburg High School where he played on the state runner-up basketball team and was a state qualifier in track. A UW-Stevens Point graduate (1982), Bruce was a two time NCAA III All-American in the high hurdles, five time conference champion, school and conference record holder, and team captain. He was named UWSP Male Athlete of the Year in 1982, and was inducted into the UWSP Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993.
Bruce has been teaching social studies in Mukwonago since 1982. He was an assistant high school track coach from 1983-1987 and from 2000-present, and assistant cross country coach from 1990-2002, and 2005 to the present, with the highlight being the 1994 Girls State Cross Country Championship. During the 1988-1990 track seasons he was an assistant track coach at UW-Whitewater, where he received his Master’s Degree in 1988.
As MHS head girls’ track and field coach for nine seasons (1991-1999), the teams won six WIAA Sectional Championships, nine WIAA Regional Championships, and 16 Conference indoor, relays, and outdoor championships including four straight SEC Triple Crown Championships from 1994-97. The teams also produced 46 individual or relay state qualifiers with 18 state place winners. He would like to thank the many dedicated and talented athletes that he was fortunate to coach, including his daughter Alyssa and son Andy. Bruce is a member of the WISTCA, a frequent clinic speaker, and camp instructor.
Bruce credits his high school coach Jerry Kohlbeck, college coach Rick Witt, and coaching colleagues and mentors Karl Schlender, Rod Vick, Ted Bachhuber and Mike Furlong for helping him create a successful and positive coaching philosophy throughout the years. Bruce continues to run, competing in the Boston Marathon in 2006 and 2007. Special thanks go out to his wife Michelle, for her support and endless patience being a coach’s wife.
