Richard Knurr
Class of '62

    Dick Knurr is a 1962 graduate of MHS.  While at MHS, he earned seven varsity letters in football, track and wrestling.

    Football:  Dick earned two varsity letters while competing in football.  A halfback for MHS, Dick gained over 500 yards rushing and tallied 69 points on 11 touch downs and three extra points during his 1961 season.  Dick’s awards for football were the Southern Lakes Most Valuable Player, winner of the Harry (Dinty) Moore Memorial Trophy for Player of the Year, earned a place on the All-County Team, and also earned All-State mention.

    Track:  Dick earned two varsity letters while competing in track.  His events were the 100, 220, and 440 yard dashes, 880 relay and broad jump.  He consistently placed in these events.  In 1961, he was a member of the 880 relay team that set a school record of 1:34.0.  The same relay team placed first in the Journal Indoor Track Games.  In 1962 Dick was a valuable member of the 880 relay team that came within three tenths of the state class B record, took first place, and helped Mukwonago bring home the school’s first State track title.

    Wrestling:  Dick earned three varsity letters while competing in wrestling.  He was the team captain in the 1961-1962 seasons.

    Dick’s additional honors include the Freeman Most Valuable Athlete trophy for his 1962 performance on MHS athletic teams.

    Outside of athletics during his high school years, Dick was the 1961 prom king, on the 1961 homecoming court, and senior class vice-president.

    After high school Dick went into the armed forces including a year in Vietnam.  He then worked for 38 years combined with Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technologies.

    He continues to show his athletic ability while playing in his over 55 softball league and golfing.

    Dick lives in Big Bend with his wife Judi.  He has two daughters, Kristin and Jennifer, both MHS grads and four grandchildren, Alison, Julia, Logan and Owen.
