Steve Cyra
Class of '81
Steve Cyra graduated from Mukwonago High School in 1981. He participated in track, cross-country, and basketball and earned seven varsity letters. In his first year of track, as a sophomore, he was conference champion in the 100 and 220 yd. sprints. As a junior and team captain, he continued to specialize in the sprint events and was the undefeated conference champion in both events. That year Steve also was a silver medal winner in the 100 and 220 at the WIAA Sectional meet and qualified for the State meet. In 1981, he capped off his high school track career by winning both the 100m and 200m at Sectionals and was also a part of the champion 800m relay team. That year, Steve went on to a second place finish at State with a time of 22.25 in the 200m. Thoroughly enjoying running, Steve also ran cross-country and was MVP of the team his senior year. In 1981 Steve received the MHS Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year award.
Post high school, Steve attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he received his Bachelors of Science degree in civil engineering. After graduating from UWM, Steve resided in Texas, New Jersey, and California before returning home to Wisconsin. He specializes in the planning, design and operation of Intelligent Transportation Systems, and works for a national consulting engineering firm, HNTB Corporation. Steve is an active member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) where he has published numerous papers on a variety of transportation topics and currently chairs a number of national committees.
Steve resides in Greenfield with his eight year old twins, Emma and Nicholas. He attributes his success to him mom (Sue) and dad (Dave) and his high school coaches, Mike Furlong and Rod Vick.
